The Awards

San Antonio Magazine proudly presents its Home & Design Awards, a local competition for commercial and residential architects, interior designers, artisans, builders and landscape designers.

A distinguished panel of nationally renowned professionals will judge entries in nearly 40 categories.

Submissions open Sept. 1 and will be accepted through Oct. 15. Winners will be announced at an awards reception in March 2022 and featured in the April 2022 issue of San Antonio Magazine.

The Judges

Allison Crawford is the founder of Allison Crawford Design and HOTELette. Crawford’s goal is to create beautiful and functional spaces that reflect the personality and passions of her clients. At the heart of Crawford’s process is the belief that design creates balance between comfort and luxury, integrating the practical with the desirable.

Crawford’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Forbes, Austin Monthly and Domino. Crawford lives in Austin but is moving to Paris in September with her husband and daughter.



Kinley C. Puzey, AIA, is a licensed architect and has spent the last 18 years in the design and construction industry. His project experience ranges from humanitarian efforts on the Navajo reservation to multimillion-dollar custom homes. Puzey holds a master’s of architecture from the University of Utah, where he was awarded the College of Architecture’s highest award, the AIA School Medal and Certificate for Merit and Excellence. In 2015, he founded Utah-based Onyx Design Collective, which specializes in high-end residential and one-of-a-kind commercial projects. His unique modern designs are conceived through a rigorous design process that mixes analog techniques and cutting-edge software. Through these methodologies, he’s able to create a design that not only solves the client’s needs but also stands as a lasting work of functional art.



From clothes to cars to spaces, Kayla Cooper has designed it all. Though her styles and practices have evolved over the years, her love for design and the creative process has not. Beginning her career in Washington, D.C., Cooper now travels to create modern, minimalist spaces with sustainable influences. Based out of Pennsylvania, Cooper loves to design with clean lines and strong architecture.


Brad Engelsman is the founder of BEDA, an architecture and design practice based in Brooklyn whose work has been recognized internationally. Engelsman studied architecture at the Montana State University School of Architecture and Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. He has served as a full time faculty member at Montana State University and the New York Institute of Technology, where he is currently a visiting professor.


Barrie Spang has been an interior designer for 25 years, working for a residential interior design firm in Cleveland for 22 years before starting her own firm and home decor store, Sapphire Pear, in 2015. Spang is inspired by color and continually encourages her clients to go beyond their comfort zone with design. She has clients throughout Cleveland and beyond. Spang has completed projects in New York, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Colorado, Washington, D.C. and even in a small seaside villa in Greece. She is currently working on homes in Charleston and Naples, Florida.


Lee Starke is a project manager and interior designer for Cline Design Associates in Raleigh, North Carolina. Cline Design is an integrated firm offering architecture, interior design and land-planning services. Starke leads and manages an expansive portfolio of projects from large-scale residential buildings to golf clubhouses and corporate office spaces. Her keen attention to detail, design know-how and ability to gather consensus quickly among team members makes her an asset to any project. With nearly 10 years of experience working on complex projects, she is well versed in providing creative design solutions on time and within budget for her clients while fostering a collaborative environment for all team members. Starke has completed projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Maryland and Michigan.
