This house, known as Rosebay, is in a historic resort community of about 1,600 in southwest North Carolina. It was expanded, starting in 2015, with the addition of a guest suite and a detached two-car garage with a workshop. The property, which is less than a mile from the town’s commercial area, is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, about 46 miles southeast of Asheville, N.C., and 31 miles northeast of Greenville, S.C. The current owners commissioned a Connecticut architect named Robert Page to design this home, which evokes the rustic feeling of a Maine boathouse. It is one of two condominiums (the other is an adjacent Victorian shingle-style house) and has exclusive use of its lot. The property is in central Connecticut, a block from Long Island Sound, in a FEMA “AE” zone that requires flood insurance. (The listing agents estimate the cost at $650 a year.)

The University of California San Francisco Medical Center at Mount Zion is less than two miles east.

The kitchen, which completes the circle, with entrances from the hallway off the foyer and from the dining room, includes vintage cabinets and has recently been refreshed with new paint and vinyl-tile flooring.
